What Is Silo?

Silo is a structure where wholesale materials are preserved or stored and it is built according to the size of the enterprise. In this way, many grains are sourced and stored. Thanks to souring, grains can be stored for a long time without spoiling. The silo consists of a high cylindrical structure made according to special methods. Steel silos, which are of great importance for the storage of grains such as wheat and corn, ensure the protection of thousands of tons of grain in a narrow space for a long time. In steel silos, the grains can be kept for a year as if they had just been harvested from the field. In a silo of 300-350 square meters, 6 thousand tons of grain can be easily stocked while staling of grain and carcinogenic substance involvement are prevented. The grains, which are protected from getting wet in the rain, warming in the heat and getting to be infested with lice, can be offered to the consumer with the freshness of the first day after months.

How to Fill Grain into Silo? The grain to be placed in the silo is raised to the top by either an absorbent or carrier arrangement, which is filled into the silo. Gates are available as well. There are many gates from top to bottom. Unloading is done starting from the top gate. The biggest benefit of silos is to provide aeration and acid arrangement of grain as required. If lactic acid and fermented carbs are found in the silo grain as much as necessary amount, there will be no other spoilage or ferment. As acidification is useful in protecting the grains to be stored in the silo, acid is added to the silos according to the type of grain to be stored when needed.

The added acid is allowed to spread throughout the silo. Plants such as maize can be sourced and stored in silos after mowing with their stems. Silos where grain is collected are usually located near the port and railways for ease of transport and loading. They are made of suitable material, either underground or above ground. Grain silos are known as silos whose temperature and humidity can be adjusted. Grain to be filled to silos is raised up to the top by special absorbent or carrier arrangement and the filling process is done from the top level.

When receiving grain from the silo, the compartment gate is opened and starts from the top compartment. The silo gates are classified from above to below. The desired amount of grain is unloaded according to this level of scale and the gates are closed. The most important feature for silos is that it provides complete isolation between the moisture contained in it and the air and moisture on the outside. Our Silo Systems are produced to meet all kinds of storage needs. Durable and quality materials are used. They are designed according to their intended use.

History Of The Silo

The first silos began to be made in the second half of the 19th century in Europe. These mainly consisted of wells drilled in soil. In 1873, an American tried to make a silo on Earth. This silo had a rectangular shape. However, the fact that it was cornered was preventing it from being thoroughly filled.
Thereupon, silos began to be made in the form of cylinders. The use of silos has started to increase after this development.

What Are The Uses Of The Silo? Industrial materials like cement, calcite, mineral, pertochemical materials, medicinal materials, pill, capsule, perfumery chemicals, coal, ash, coal, coal powder, soda, glass powder, plaster, perlite, marble powder, plastic, polyethylene, granules, wood shavings and activated carbon. Also the materials used in many different areas, such as carbon black and ceramic powder, are suitable for pneumatic transmission and transport. In the use of food, coffee, flour, dandruff, milk powder, powdered sugar, spices, salt, gluten, starch, such as powder-like food products are supplied with pneumatic conveying systems. Since no dust, crumbs are poured into the environment, bacteria and insect formation is prevented. The greatest sensitivity indicator on the most sensitive subject. Use in agriculture: Wheat, barley, especially corn farming in our country contributes greatly to the production of animal protein. Chickpeas, beans, red lentils, green lentils, broad beans, peas, black-eyed peas and soybean are the agricultural products of the legume family. Various agricultural products such as oats, rye, millet, sesame, rice, nuts, paddy, seeds, chestnuts, pulp, raw material, apricot seeds, pulses, animal feed and feed additives benefit from silos.

What Are Silo Types? A) Tower Type Concrete Or Steel Silo: Although mostly concrete is used as building material; briquette, stone, brick and sheet can also be used. Cylindrical silos made of wood or sheet metal are very durable.

In silos made of sheet steel, since the parts that are in contact with air and water are easily eroded, it is necessary to cover the interior with a protective material. The most suitable building material for cylindrical silos is galvanized corrugated sheet. Horizontal pressure resistance of silos made with wood material is supplied with steel rings placed outside the wall. They are expensive structures that professional businesses can think of. They are built in 500-1000 tons towers, where automatic feeding is done in such silos and space saving is mandatory and labor is expensive. Steel material can be used.

B) Above Ground Concrete Silo:
Such silos are generally open front silos, which are constructed of durable construction materials on which the ground can be made of concrete, two or three sides of stones. Construction costs are very high and it is necessary to give proper slope to the side walls during construction. Also, sandbags and truck tires are placed on the silo to prevent the silage from getting air. It is not recommended for small-scale enterprises with low capital. It is recorded as the most used silo type in our country. It is also a very useful silo type for use.

C) Above Ground Silo
They are the cheapest silos that are affordable in terms of budget and the simplest form of silos. There is no expense. Therefore, it is recommended in small enterprises because there is no need for a fixed investment. As the business grows, develops and gets richer, those silos could be switched with safer silos. They are not used in big enterprises. Since small agricultural enterprises are dominant in our country, there is not much tower type silos. It is possible to indicate that small-size continuous or temporary wells and trench silos are suitable especially for arid regions. In addition, straw and straw bale silos, wooden and fence silos and plastic cloth silos can be recommended for our country because of the low cost of silos.

Grain Storage Silos used by Mysilo

Flat Bottom Silos:

Silo entrance door, each silo has 2 doors. The first door is used to provide access from the roof when the silo is full. The other door is located in the second ring from the bottom, so that access to the silo can be provided when the silo is empty. Thanks to the second door located on the inner side of the lower silo door which opens towards the inner side of the silo, Safe use is intended by preventing the opening of the door when the silo is full.

Commercial Hopper Base Silos:

Manufactured in four different conical base angles: 37 °, 40 °, 45 ° and 60 ° considering the silo diameter and grain to be stored. Conical bottom models should be preferred if silos are to be discharged frequently. The angles of the conical bases designed for flow convenience vary depending on the type of product to be stored, the diameter of the silo and the intended use. Thanks to the conical structure, time and money losses during discharge are prevented. Conical Base Silos are divided into two groups: small capacities; They are called Economic Conic Base Silos; big capacities; They are called Commercial Hopper Base Silos. Commercial Hopper Base Silos has big capacities and carry the silo loads comfortably, thanks to its specially designed strong steel construction structure. All the design details required for safe storage of your grain have been considered in detail.

Economic Conic Base Silos: In addition to not requiring a significant infrastructure cost, conical bases are manufactured at different angles as required. Silo side walls sheets and wall support sheets (stiffener/columns) are made of 450gr/m2 galvanized, minimum 350N/mm2 tension resistant s350gd+Z quality high performance steel. The silo's own weight, silo loads during loading and unloading of the silo, wind and earthquake loads, such as vertical load in the silo can be conveyed easily to the ground with the help of specially designed wall support sheets. The wall sheets used in Mysilo are shaped with 65mm groove spacing and become the world's narrowest corrugated wall sheet.
